Mumbai: Zomato, a leading online food delivery platform, has joined hands with Femi9 to promote menstrual hygiene among women in the gig workforce. Through this collaboration, Zomato will provide free eco-friendly sanitary napkins to its female delivery partners in Tamil Nadu.
This initiative, unveiled at the Femi9 Mega Celebration Event 2, aims to enhance the health and well-being of women delivery partners by ensuring consistent access to sustainable menstrual products. Female delivery partners will also receive a leaflet titled “Be a Cramp-ion”, featuring health tips and educational content to support them during menstruation.
Anjalli Ravi Kumar, Chief Sustainability Officer at Zomato, highlighted the company’s commitment to inclusivity and empowerment, “At Zomato, we are committed to creating a more inclusive and empowering environment for women across, especially in our delivery partner fleet. Initiatives like these reflect our holistic approach to supporting and inspiring more women to join the gig workforce. This is another step in our ongoing journey to foster key collaborations that address specific needs of women.”
Dr. Gomathi, Founder of Femi9, emphasized the importance of sustainable products, “Our aim is to make sure our sustainable products reach every woman across the nation, and we are sure that this collaboration with Zomato is a great start for that.”
As of November 2024, Zomato reported over 2,500 active female delivery partners operating in more than 250 cities. The company has introduced several initiatives to support their well-being, including:
- Offering a Kurta option for uniforms.
- Providing shorter-distance delivery options.
- Instituting two paid period rest days per month.
- Including maternity cover in its insurance plan.
This partnership with Femi9 is a significant step in Zomato’s journey to promote inclusivity, sustainability, and health for women in the gig workforce.
