Chennai: Fiction Show Sembaruthi aired on Zee Tamil has strengthened its leadership in the Tamil GEC space by clocking highest viewership 15.76 TVR in BARC data for week 52, that aided the show to post 2+ TVR lead over Sun TV’s top-rated show Naayagi which scored 13.49 TVR (BARC All 2+). This is the first time Sembaruthi has managed to widen its margin against Naayagi beyond 2 TVR limit as they both used to compete closely with thin margins only. Semparuthi has scored 14.62 TVR in Wk 51 and 14.32 TVR in Wk 50 of 2018 while Naayagi has clocked 14.34 in Wk 51 and 14.11 TVR in Wk 50.
Sembaruthi’s ascendance can be attributed to replacement of fiction show Nandhini@ 9 PM on Sun TV with new show Lakshmi Stores with Actress Kushboo. Usually, any new show launched on Sun TV used to open with higher TVR than the closing week TVR of the previous show. Contrary to the trend Lakshmi Stores has opened with 9.18 TVR against the closing ratings of Nandhini at 13.45 TVR.
While its too early to judge the performance of Lakshmi Stores against Sembaruthi, the core prime time of Sun TV between 8:30 to 10 PM is continuously being dominated by Zee Tamil for the past couple of months. It prompted Sun TV to swing into action. As part of its efforts to win back the turf Sun TV has launched much-expected Multilingual Mythological fantasy series by Radaan Media Works on 10th December replacing Vani Rani at 9:30 PM and Lakshmi Stores on 24th December at 9 PM.
Chandrakumari on Sun TV has opened with 8.33 TVR in the following week it has dropped down to 7.40 TVR in week 51 and subsequently to 6.52 TVR in week 52 showing a week-on-week dipping trend in its viewership rating. On the other hand, Lakshmi Stores has opened with lesser numbers than the closing TVR of the previous show.
If both the newly launched show on Sun TV fails to deliver in upcoming weeks, it will only end up helping Zee Tamil to further its viewership war with the market leader.
