New Delhi: After the successful launch of Wrestling TV during the UWW World Wrestling Championships, where 6.5 million users tuned in, WrestlingTV will stream all the Under-23 UWW World Wrestling Championship action LIVE in the Indian sub-continent for the very first time. The UWW U-23 Wrestling World Championship is slated to be held from October 28 to November 3, in Hungary, Budapest.
India will be fielding a 30-member strong squad for the freestyle, Greco Roman and women’s events. The competition will feature 631 athletes from 64 countries across the world. Ten wrestlers will be bidding to defend their U-23 World Wrestling Championships titles.
Indian wrestling’s excellent performance at the UWW World Wrestling Championships, where the grapplers from the country secured an unprecedented haul of five medals has raised hopes of yet another stirring display on the mat.
“India is a huge market for the sport which is evident from the wrestling lovers who turn up in thousands for the dangals and kushtis in remote villages in Haryana, Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh or any other state in the country. However, they are deprived of quality international wrestling content. This has strengthened our resolve to bring all the major UWW international and national wrestling competitions to millions of wrestling fans in India and the sub-continent LIVE,” said Ashish Chadha, CEO, Sporty Solutionz, WrestlingTV’s parent company which holds United World Wrestling’s exclusive media and broadcast rights for the Indian sub-continent.
Inspired by Ravi Kumar, who brought a silver last year from the Under-23 UWW World Wrestling Championship, the likes of Sajan Bhanwal, Sharvan and Vicky will be the ones to watch out for in this edition. While Bhanwal is a three-time World Junior Championships medallist, Sharvan too has established his immense talent with a gold medal in Junior Asian Championship in 2017. Vicky, meanwhile, has already attained the sixth position in seniors in 92kg and will be hungry to make his mark.
“Wrestling has bigger number of committed fans than most other sports in country. With each major bout streamed LIVE this fan base will strengthen further. Players will get better recognition and wrestling will grow faster in all aspects of a modern day sport. WrestlingTV has come up as a major turning point to boost our grand programme for wrestling,” said said Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, President, Wrestling Federation of India.
The sport scaled a new high in India during the UWW World Wrestling Championships, when 11 million users engaged in live streaming and video content on WrestlingTV during the 9 days of action.
