HimaBulusu – Associate Director – Key Accounts, TheSmallBigIdea:
Journey:
It’s been one of learning. From stumbling into this industry with nothing but a desire to do something creative to creating brand stories and building teams, everyday I’ve learnt a new lesson, both through my successes and failures.
Inspiring Women:
Cliché as it sounds; I’ve found some of my biggest inspirations at home. My Granddad who to his dying breath remained a self-sufficient and altruistic man, my Grandma who ran the household with intelligence and knowledge despite her lack of education, my Dad who came from a small town but created a beautiful home with progressive values and economic stability, my Mom who is the symbol of perseverance and selflessness and my Sister who always proves that nothing is impossible. Most importantly, every single person has always shown tremendous belief in me, even when I didn’t have it.
My inspirations also come from all the people I work with. When I see a tremendous talent, work ethic and creativity around me, it pushes me to always do better and be better.‘Show, don’t tell’ is my mantra to inspire my team. If they are stuck in a rut or are feeling uninspired, I find it highly effective to actually put in the work with them, give a glimpse of what is expected, nudge them gently towards the path and stand back and watch with pride as they discover the end goal. Also, never underestimate the power of good food!
Empowering Women:
Women Empowerment must be continuous and constant to eradicate the disparity. It’s not enough to just shatter glass ceilings, it is more important that those ceilings stay shattered and we all together ensure that it remains so. It remains so for women from across races, castes, regions, religions and sexualities. Even one door, unfairly shutting to a woman, is a loss to us all.

Journey:
From stepping into the world of digital marketing, fresh out of college, with no experience whatsoever, to giving this career my all and embracing every opportunity that came my way; it has been quite a journey of learning, working hard and earning my way up the ladder, and yet, I am just getting started!
Inspiring Women:
I find inspiration in a variety of people and things but I believe the largest inspiration in my life has been my brother. He has always been everything I needed him to be, to push myself to do better – be it a friend, a mentor or even a competitor. With all the ups and downs we have had while growing up, he has still played the most important role in shaping who I am today.
“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader”
I truly live by this quote by John Quincy Adams and that’s really how I inspire my team too. Nothing inspires my team better than actually leading by example – getting my hands dirty and taking responsibility to learn more and become more together and inspiring the team to dream and do more by listening to them and letting them do their thing.
Empowering Women:
Honestly, women empowerment has been a very misunderstood concept. While speaking about empowering women, there is a lot of emphasis on bringing about a culture of equality in opportunities; but I believe women empowerment really lies in celebrating women no matter what they do and encouraging them to not be ashamed of who they are! Can’t a CEO of a company and a housewife both be equally empowered women?
