Back in the day, I remember us working on one of the most significant and critical pitch for our company. The situation was equivalent to any other pitch in terms of anxiety levels soaring high, last minute validations, structuring of slides etc. Only this time, the stakes were high. It was during that time that the “situational leader” in me woke up and took control over a significant piece of the agenda. The situation required me to push back, but with care. Inspire others with the strength of my conviction yet not instruct.
It was one of the most spontaneous and well delivered presentations of my life. I felt proud that I was a woman and that’s probably why I could demonstrate a blended behavior that was an outcome of not only my command over the subject but also the high EQ inherent in me as a woman leader during those stressful times.
Inspiring Women
The talk about equality has always been a point of contention, be it at a corporate workspace or your home.
No matter the dynamics between you and your partner , the responsibility scale always tilts towards the mother especially on occasions when the child is unwell and finds more comfort in their mother.
Balancing requires inculcating skills like:
Being efficient at work place by minimizing chit-chats and smoke breaks.
Delegate – you can’t do it all by yourself!
Barter with your spouse for e.g. if he wants his bed tea, he’ll have to drop the kids to school
Share – talk about your professional achievements with your family so that they feel they are a part of your journey and support you
Last but not the least, believe in your core strengths and focus on your core competency rather than highlighting the “woman factor” because that’s what is most important to the organisation and to you as a professional.
Preeti Mascarenhas, Head – Strategy and Product, Mindshare India
The moment of my team winning the architects of brand excellence, Emvies Agency of the year 2019 winning and also the moment of retaining the Disney business with 15 years relationship are few moments where the happiness is unparalled and the cumulative score of achievements is highest in these moments of my life.
It is something that I have learnt from about “success”… perseverance, speed and relentless efforts in a focused meaningful journey will always lead to something fruitful. The love that one gets from teams and joy of building brands with passionate people is a reward each day that I get. Hence more than counting moments… I always count on people who make them happen!
Inspiring Women
As women we have traditionally seen our moms multitask each day to make us stand tall today. Being Women is also about being more human, and as a leader one needs to also handle key decisions, manage our work families and also value our people more than anything ”. Walking the talk and being more inclusive in style of leadership is important. Building and lead with examples & case studies of work. Empathy & understanding other women in teams based on the life stages which even you would have passed once and creating equal culture and workspaces that don’t discriminate the value each one brings in is most critical for every business.
