The pandemic of Covid-19 has forced upon a lot of changes in the consumption behavior of the Indian TV viewing audience. According to BARC India’s viewership data for week 13, English News channels have seen a tremendous growth both in average impressions and reach, in the 22+ M NCCS AB/Megacities, on a week-on-week basis.
India Today garnered 658MN gross impressions in Wk 13 not only in the English News genre but also across Business Channels, Sports Channels and English Entertainment Channels. ((Source – BARC, 22+MAB, Market – Mega Cities, period Wk 13’20)
Refer to the table that highlights average impressions in MN for English News channels in the Mega Cities, India Today TV has witnessed a huge jump from 583 MN impressions in Wk 12 to 658 in Wk13. The other channels have marginally declined in WK13.
India Today TV growth in percentage in the megacities saw a jump in WK 13, it has grown from 20% in Wk12 to 26% in Wk13. Some channels have seen a decline in their growth as compared to Wk12. Overall all News channels in this genre has seen a growth in this period of lockdown.

ATS shows India today television is 124 % ahead of Times Now and 57% ahead of Republic TV in Wk 13’20 % (Source – BARC, 22+MAB, Market – Mega Cities, period Wk 13’20)
Such numbers come on the back of the brilliant contribution of news channels and strategizing their programming to the country’s fight against Covid-19 by constantly providing news and information about the pandemic and urging its viewers to stay indoors and safe.
