New Delhi: In a creative push to enhance user safety, WhatsApp has launched a unique music video featuring actor Abhay Deol as part of its ongoing privacy campaign. This engaging video is a musical remake of the iconic track “Oye Lucky Lucky Oye” and aims to educate users on how to protect themselves from scams on the platform.
Collaborating with BBDO India, the campaign taps into nostalgia to emphasize the importance of scam awareness. The video portrays relatable scenarios, such as fake job offers and OTP scams, while highlighting WhatsApp’s robust privacy features that empower users to safeguard their information.
In the visually immersive rendition, Deol captures the audience’s attention, reinforcing the need for vigilance in the digital age. “It’s been an amazing experience to bring back the nostalgia of ‘Oye Lucky Lucky Oye’ in a new, exciting way,” said Deol. “Partnering with WhatsApp makes it even more meaningful because we’re not just entertaining – we’re also educating people about online safety.”
Vyom Prashant, Director of Consumer Marketing at Meta, stated, “Privacy and safety are synonymous in today’s online world. Our goal is to keep user safety at the center of everything we do at WhatsApp. This music video aims to create a memorable message that resonates with our users and reinforces the use of our safety tools.”
Josy Paul from BBDO India added, “We aimed to educate consumers on avoiding scams with WhatsApp’s features. Reworking a catchy Bollywood song allows us to convey a strong message in a relatable and engaging manner.”
The initiative builds on WhatsApp’s previous privacy campaign launched in July, which focuses on equipping users with the tools to protect their online presence. The video showcases features like Silence Unknown Callers, Two-Step Verification, and the ability to block and report unwanted contacts, all designed to enhance user security.
