The New H.265/HEVC technology that can efficiently compress the Video and capable of reducing the bit-rate 50% better than the current MPEG-4 Technology will redefine the Television watching experience and this has wooed the DTH operators adopt this technology at the earliest due to various advantages that they can enjoy from this new technology.
The content can be transmitted at a bit rate comparable with the maximum used today for HD Transmission. It can also reduce the transmission bandwidth needs over broadcast and broadband networks to enable video compression for Ultra HD video (4K and even 8K resolution)
Moreover, it also helps them to widespread the availability of HD and Full HD content to more subscribers than the existing level as per the existing MPEG 4 technology.
This means better TV watching experience for the subscribers and DTH operators can hope to increase their no. of HD channels and also their Subscriber base without any additional cost.
4K Ultra HD resolution gives a picture of 3840 pixels × 2160 lines, which is much more than the existing HD resolution.
Now, there are over 100 million Indian homes with a cable TV connection, 20 million of them digital, in addition to another 56 million with satellite dishes fuelled by digital set top boxes. To tap this huge market, Broadcom has created a ready-to-use design and is even throwing in the software free to encourage Indian makers of STBs.
Indian DTH operators like Tatasky and Videocon d2h had started their roll-out plans and Soon STBs with 4K technology will be available to redefine their TV watching experience.
