#RIPDaCunha
Since there was no column last week, this piece takes into account developments from the past fortnight. That includes the loss of the creator of ‘Utterly Butterly Amul’, Sylvester daCunha. He lives on through the ‘Amul Girl’ that he created and the (world’s longest running?) campaign that draws on current affairs. The witty take on newsmakers and developments is a winning template with endless legs. May the legend rest in peace.
“I think it is utterly mad; but if you think it will work, go ahead.’ And it worked! What a legendary lasting partnership of trust between Dr Varghese Kurien and Sylvester daCunha. #RIP

#EidMubarak
The animal ‘sacrifice’ during the festival seems to dominate the conversations, with housing societies becoming war zones. But let us not go there. Because whatever one says will be slotted in a ‘for’ or ‘against’ box. There’s enough good to focus on in the right festive spirit.
May this #Eid bring lots of good #Health , #Happiness & #Prosperity in our lives! #EidMubarakToAllSpecial Thanks for #ShahRukhKhan Sir & son #AbRamKhan for So Nice Greetings to Everyone on this Beautiful Occasion! #EidMubarak #EidMubarak2023 #EidCelebrations pic.twitter.com/rq6GHDWCkm

#Byjus
It’s not good news for Byju’s. Directors and the audit firm quitting, lead investor cutting the valuation, its delay in payment of PF hitting the headlines… All of this called for crisis management with a certain level of transparency. But the company seems to be in a zone far removed from reality, going by the belligerence on show. This was precisely how it attempted to handle negative press the last time around when it axed jobs. But this time it’s far more serious. One hopes better sense prevails with some sane counsel.
#Byju social media bots are actively promoting #BYJU and #ByjuRaveendran . But they don't have money to pay their EPF dues !

#Ashes
There was a lot of cricket at Lords to keep us entertained and there was more. The protestor who got carried off by Jonny Bairstow and then the security personnel / police was the showstopper. The Just Stop Oil protestors who tried to paint the pitch orange didn’t make it to the wickets. But they did get their message across to the world. Test cricket does have its moments. On and off the pitch.

#MahsaAmini
The mayhem continues, as do the attempts to put forth misinformation. As much as possible, the attempt here is to pick Tweets from verified handles or those seeming to be authentic and endorsed by reliable sources. The number of executions including those of children published by the UN should be reliable. In which case, there is no question that the world needs to do something about what’s happening in Iran.
New @UN #HumanRights report on #Iran shows 582 were executed last year, and during protests this year over #MahsaAmini death at least 44 children were reportedly killed by security forces @NadaNashif tells @UN_HRChttps://t.co/t0bSjYHnca

Do you know the story of @raha_ajoudani ?
At just 17 years old she was kidnapped by #IRGCterrorists last October in relation to the #MahsaAmini protests in Iran, she was subsequently tortured and raped for several days in police custody. As a mere child she was brutally sexually… pic.twitter.com/IjW8LWYlT9
