Mumbai: The Board of Directors of Volvo Cars has appointed Håkan Samuelsson as its new Chief Executive Officer & President for a two-year term, effective April 1, 2025. This appointment aims to provide stability as the company prepares for a long-term leadership transition.
Samuelsson is no stranger to Volvo Cars, having served on its Board since 2010 and as CEO from 2012 to 2022. Under his leadership, Volvo Cars transformed into a global premium automotive brand and successfully went public. Following his tenure at Volvo Cars, he served as Chairperson of Polestar until 2024.
The leadership change comes at a critical time for Volvo Cars and the automotive industry, which is witnessing rapid technological advancements, geopolitical complexities, and intensified competition. The Board believes Samuelsson’s deep industrial experience, strong understanding of Volvo Cars, and proven track record in navigating challenges will be instrumental in driving the company’s next phase of growth.
Samuelsson succeeds Jim Rowan, who has stepped down as CEO & President on March 31, 2025, and has also exited the Volvo Cars Board. Additionally, Samuelsson is set to be proposed as a new member of the Volvo Cars Board at the upcoming Annual General Meeting.
