The last thing we need is another award show; that is, of course, unless it accomplishes something different, which, in this case, is celebrating the best in TV from around the world.
Viki, the global TV site powered by fans, is teaming with Variety to create the Global TV Awards, which will take place on September 12, 2015 at The Orpheum Theatre in downtown Los Angeles. The Global TV Awards will celebrate “achievements in global TV, film & artistry as recognized by fans from more than 200 countries,”.
With the most well-known award shows focused on American TV, Found Remote asked Viki CEO Tammy H. Nam how the Global TV Awards will shed light on great content being produced worldwide.
“This will be a high-profile show; in addition to the thousands of fans and media who will attend in person, we expect more than a billion impressions through digital and broadcast channels through global partners,” Nam said.
“Viewers are already crossing borders in terms of their international content interests, which isn’t surprising given how increasingly small the world is becoming. We hope that GTVA will help to shed light on how much great content is available – at the same time, also help break down language and culture barriers.” NAM added.
The launch of the Global TV Awards was announced on stage earlier this month during TUNE IN: Variety’s TV Summit.
Viki’s first global TV awards is hosted by actor Randall Park from ABC series, “Fresh Off The Boat” and comedy movie, “The Interview”.
Viki also states, “In association with Variety, this will be the first awards show of its kind, celebrating the world’s greatest achievements in TV, film, and artistry as recognized by fans in more than 200 countries.”
