Mumbai: The 3rd edition of ‘The Commune’ had India’s most talent film writer, lyricist and stand-up commentator Varun Grover; address Mumbai’s Media & Communications fraternity in a free flowing conversation with Deepak Kapoor, Founder of ‘The Commune’. This session was organized on July 28th, 2016 at Tonic, a prominent lounge located in Central Mumbai.
‘The Commune’ is Mumbai’s first of its kind community dedicated to Media & Communications professionals, facilitating monthly interactive gatherings in a social setup. This initiative covers professionals from advertising, digital marketing/ social media, integrated marketing communications, media planning & buying, PR/ corporate communications, events, media content, market research and marketing, among others.
During his session, Varun spoke about his journey of over 10 years in the field of film writing, lyric writing and stand-up. He shared his experience of becoming a full time writer and then penning Masaan and critically acclaimed songs for Dum Laga Ke Haisha, Gangs of Wasseypur, Fan and Udta Punjab.
A recipient of National Award for Best Lyrics for his song ‘Moh Moh Ke Dhaagey’ from Dum Laga Ke Haisha, Varun shed light upon his entry into the world of stand-up comedy. He also took questions from fraternity members during this session.

The 3rd edition of ‘The Commune’ was attended by 40 professionals from Leo Burnett, DDB Mudra Group, Adfactors, MSL Group India, Perfect Relations, Avian Media, WAT Consult (Part of Dentsu Aegis Network India), GVK and Kalpataru Limited. Varun also participated in a uniquely conceptualized engagement activity called ‘Flip the Cup’ in which attendees participated with full enthusiasm.
