Former P&G, Google and YouTube marketer Eshan Ponnadurai has joined the transport-disrupting app as Asia Pacific marketing director.
The news emerges a few months after Target CMO Jeff Jones was appointed president of Uber, and has instigated a shakeup of the company’s operations, including in Asia Pacific.
Ponnadurai comes on board nine months after Renaud Besnard was hired as Uber’s regional CMO. Besnard, to whom Ponnadurai will report, is also a former Googler, having joined from the search giant in March.
Ponnadurai is currently looking to hire a head of marketing and creative partnerships, and also a head of social and content marketing for the region.
His early career was spent at Ford before he moved to Procter & Gamble in 2005, working in both Singapore and his native Australia. There, he worked on the SK-II and Olay brands before joining YouTube in 2009 as head of marketing for Southeast Asia.
He was named head of marketing for Google APAC in 2011, and then global head of marketing, music, for YouTube in 2014, his last job before joining Uber.
Ponnadurai is on the panel of judges for the Mumbrella Asia Awards 2017.
