Twitter has implemented new policy to limit the spread of harmful misinformation through its platform. The new policy will specifically restrict the amplification of misinformation in times of crisis, including armed conflict, civil unrest and more.
The policy has been initiated in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Misleading content regarding the war in Ukraine will be targeted to limit the spread of claims debunked by humanitarian groups or other credible sources.
“Under the new policy, Twitter will add warning labels to debunk false claims about crises and users will not be able to like, forward, or respond to the posts that violate the new rules. Misleading tweets from political figures, verified accounts and state-sponsored media outlets will be prioritised for labeling,” the company said.
