In the category of ‘Journalism in Service to Humanity’ at the inaugural Jethmalani Prize in Journalism instituted under the aegis of The Sunday Guardian Foundation’s Will of Steel Awards, Aditya Raj Kaul, Executive Editor of TV9 Network, received a Gold Medal and a cash award of Rs.14,00,000.
The inaugural edition of the awards were commemorated on September 14 to mark the birth centenary year of late lawyer Ram Jethmalani, in whose name the award has been instituted.
The awards seek to recognise outstanding contributions in journalism, reflecting the spirit of democracy, public welfare, dissemination of information, and transparency – values championed by the legendary humanist who left an indelible mark on jurisprudence, governance, and democracy, informed an official statement.
Three prizes were presented in all.
A second category ‘Legal Journalism’ saw Bar & Bench receiving a Copper Medal and a cash award of Rs.1,11,000.
A third category ‘Empowerment’ saw Hina Rohtaki, Special Correspondent at The Indian Express, receive a Copper Medal and a cash award of Rs.1,11,000.
The awards were presented by Arjun Ram Meghwal, Minister of Law and Justice of India; Mahesh Jethmalani, Rajya Sabha MP; and Kartikeya Sharma, Member of Rajya Sabha.
