TV ad volumes in Auto Sector fell by 14% from Jan-June 2023 to Jan-June 2024, per Tam Adex

Ad Volumes on TV for the Auto Sector witnessed a de-growth of 14% during Jan-June 2024 over Jan-June 2023: Tam Adex

Mumbai: On Television Ad Volumes on TV for the Auto Sector witnessed de-growth of 14% during Jan-June 2024 over Jan-June 2023. Two-wheelers was the leading category with 39% share of ad volumes in H1’24. The top 10 brands together added 33% share of ad volumes with Honda Shine leading the list. News was the leading Channel Genre of the Auto Sector during Jan-June 2024 with a 65% share.

The Tam AdEx – Advertising Report on Auto Sector January-June 2024 has been released. Ad Space in Print was increased by 25% in Jan-June 2024 compared to Jan-June 2023. Honda Shine 100 was the leading brand in Print with a 7% share of ad space. Hindi was the most preferred publication language in Jan-June 2024. 54% of the total ad space was utilised by the Auto sector’s advertisers for different types of Sales Promotions in Print media.

On radio ad volumes for the Auto Sector increased by 14% in Jan-June 2024 compared to Jan-June 2023. Cars was the leading category and Maruti Suzuki India among advertisers in H1 2024 on Radio. Gujarat was the leading state for Auto Sector Advertising on Radio during Jan-June 2024. The top 10 brands together added a 35% share of ad volumes with Nissan Magnite leading the list.

Ad Impressions on the Digital Medium witnessed a massive growthof 55% during Jan-June 2024 over Jan-June 2023. Cars was the leading category with a 46% share of ad impressions. Hyundai Motor India was the leading brand on Digital Medium with a 9% share of ad impressions in H1 2024. During Jan-June 2024, Programmatic transaction method had the highest share of ad impressions of 89%.

The following is a detailed analysis of auto sector advertising in each sector.

TV

Ad Volumes for the Auto sector on TV

Ad volumes on TV witnessed de-growth of 14% during Jan-June 2024 compared to Jan-June 2023.
The Auto sector experienced a 29% growth during Jan-June 2024 compared to the same period in 2022.

The Top 10 Categories and Advertisers of Auto for TV Top 10 Advertisers % Share

The Two-Wheeler category surpassed Cars to claim the top position, capturing a 39% share of ad volumes in H1 2024 compared to H1 2023.

Auto-Air Freshners was a new entrant in the Top 10 categories during Jan-June 2024 over Jan-June 2023. The top two categories collectively added a 76% share of ad volumes in H1 2024.

The top 10 advertisers together added a 73% share of ad volumes in H1 2024. Maruti Suzuki India ascended to the top position with a 15% share of ad volumes.

The Top 10 Brands of the Auto sector on TV

The top 10 brands together added 33% share of ad volumes in Jan-June 2024.

Out of the top 10 brands in the Auto sector on TV, three belonged to Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India

The Top Channel Genres preferred by advertisers of the Auto sector on TV

News was the leading Channel Genre of the Auto Sector during H1 2024 with 65% share of ad volumes.

The Top two channel genres on TV together accounted for 78% of ad volumes share for the Auto sector during Jan-June 2024.

The Top 10 Programme Genres preferred by advertisers of the Auto sector on TV

The News Bulletin genre was the most preferred for promoting Auto brands on Television.

The Top two programme genres i.e. News Bulletin and Feature Films together added 65% to the total Ad Volume share of the Auto sector on TV.

Print

Ad Space for Auto sector in Print

Ad space in Jan-June 2024 for the Auto Sector, witnessed a growth of 25% compared to Jan-June 2023. While the growth witnessed during Jan-June 2024 was 50% over Jan-June 2022.

The Top 10 Categories and Advertisers of Auto Sector on Print Top 10 Categories % Share

Cars, Two Wheelers and Ret Cars retained their first, second and third positions in H1 2024 compared to H1 2023. The top three categories collectively added a 92% share of ad space in Jan-June 2024.

Maruti Suzuki India retained its top positions in H1 2024 over H1 2023.

The Top 10 advertisers together added 71% share of ad space in Jan-June 2024.

The Top 10 Brands of the Auto sector in Print

 The top 10 Brands accounted for 28% share of ad space in Jan-June 2024 with Honda Shine 100 leading the list.

Out of the top 10 brands, six of them belonged to the Cars Category and the remaining four to Two-wheelers category in Jan-June 2024.

Maruti Car Range slid to second position in Jan-June 2024 over Jan-June 2023.

Newspaper: Publication Language and Genre for the Auto sector in Print

41% of the total ad space utilised by Auto Sector advertisers was in Hindi Publications.

The Top five Publication Languages accounted for an 82% share of the Auto sector’s ad space.

The General Interest publication genre added a 98% share of the Auto sector’s ad Space.

Zone wise Advertising share of the Auto sector in Print

 Among the four zones, Northwas the leading territory for Auto advertising with 32% share of sector in Print during H1 2024.

New Delhi and Mumbai were the top two cities in Pan India during Jan-June 2024.

Advertising Promotions of the Auto sector in Print

54% of the total ad space was utilised by the Auto sector’s advertisers for different types of Sales Promotions in the Print media.

Among Sales Promotions, Discount Promotion occupied 57% share of the pie followed by Multiple Promotion with a 36% share in Jan-June 2024.

Radio

Ad Volumes for the Auto sector on Radio

 Ad volumes for the Auto Sector increased by 78% in Jan-June 2024 over Jan-June 2022 in the Radio Medium.

14% ad volume growth was witnessed during Jan-June 2024 over Jan-June 2023 in the Auto Sector.

The Top 10 Categories and Advertisers for Auto on Radio Top 10 Categories % Share

 Cars and Ret Cars retained their first and second position with 72% and 12% share of ad volumes respectively in Jan-June 2024 over Jan-June 2023. The top three categories together contributed nearly 90% share of ad volumes in H1 2024.

 Tractors was the only new entrant in the top 10 categories for Jan-June 2024 compared to top 10 of Jan-June 2023.

Maruti Suzuki India retained its first position with 20% share of ad volumes in H1 2024 over H1 2023. The top 10 advertisers together added a 71% share of ad volumes in H1 2024.

The Top 10 Brands of the Auto sector on Radio

Among the Top 10 Auto brands, three brands belonged to Maruti Suzuki India and two belonged to Hyundai.

Top 10 Brands accounted for 35% share of ad volumes in Jan-June 2024 with Nissan Magnite leading the Brand’s list.

 Nine out of the Top 10 brands on Radio belonged to the Car’s category and only one belonged to Automotive Fuel’s Category

State-wise share of Auto advertising on Radio

The top five states accounted for 64% share of ad volumes for the Auto sector.

Gujarat ascended to the top with a 17% share of ad volumes in Jan-June 2024 compared to Jan-June 2023.

Digital

Ad Impressions for the Auto sector on Digital

The digital medium witnessed a significant growth of 55% in ad impressions in Jan-Jun’24 over Jan-June 2023.

The Auto sector experienced a 2.68 times growth during Jan-Jun’24 compared to the same period in 2022

The Top 10 Categories and Advertisers of the Auto Sector for Digital Top 10 Categories% Share

Cars and Two Wheelers retained their 1st& 2ndpositions in the top 10 categories during H1 2024.

 Six out of the top 10 categories were common during Jan-June 2024 over Jan-June 2023.

The Top 10 Advertisers accounted for a 69% share of ad impressions in Jan-June 2024 with Maruti Suzuki India leading the list.

The Top 10 Brands of the Auto sector on Digital

In Digital Medium, the top 10 brands together contributed a 37% share of ad impressions in Jan-June 2024.

Among the Top 10 brands, four of them belonged to category ‘Cars’ and 3belonged to ‘Two Wheelers’ category.

Transaction Methods of Digital Advertising in the Auto sector

During Jan-June 2024, Programmatic transaction method ascended to the top position with a 89% share of ad impressions for Digital Advertising in the Auto Sector.
