Mumbai: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has appointed Ritu Ranjan Mittar and Maruthi Prasad Tangirala as its new whole-time members for a period of three years, according to media reports. This move comes as part of TRAI’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its leadership team to oversee the country’s telecommunication sector.
Ritu Ranjan Mittar, a former Head and Advisor at the Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC), brings more than three decades of expertise to his new role. A 1985 batch Indian Telecommunications Service (ITS) officer, Mittar has held various key positions in the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Government of India. Prior to his appointment at TRAI, he served as Senior Deputy Director General (Sr. DDG) and Head of TEC, and was also the Deputy Director General (DDG) for Telecom Security in TEC New Delhi.
Maruthi Prasad Tangirala also joins TRAI as a whole-time member, having served in multiple significant roles in government regulatory bodies. He has previously worked in the Department of Telecommunications, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI), and the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). His experience spans regulatory frameworks, policy implementation, and strategic decision-making.
