Mumbai: Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry has emerged as the top most market in India with viewers spending maximum time watching Television with an average time spend (ATS) of 4 hours and 11 minutes per day, while Andhra Pradesh and Telangana were edging close to TN/Pondy with an ATS of 4:10 hours per day against the National average ATS of 3+ hours.
The four Southern regional states happened to be the highest TV viewing markets in India due to the factors like highest TV penetration and availability of Power and their inclining towards consuming Movies on TV coupled with quality of content offered by the GECs due to heavy competition.
According to the report titled “TV: Who Watches How Much” released by BARC for the year 2017 Bihar/Jharkahand happens to be the lowest in the order with 2:40 hours per day.The reason for low ATS in Bihar/Jharkhand is attributed to factors like Power Cuts, Poor TV penetration and limited content options available before the audience.
Apparently, #BARCReport2017 comprises the average time spend on TV during week 8 to week 51 of 2017.
Karnataka stood at No. 3 with an ATS of 3:59 hours while Maharashatra / Goa was at 4th with 3:56 hours of TV viewing.
Delhi topped the Metro citiesand became 5th largest market at all India level with an ATS of 3:51 hours.
The smallest state in South Regional Market, Kerala, managed to stay on top at No. 6 in spending time before Television with 3:41 hours on an average.
Gujarat, Diu Daman and DadarNagar Haveli together stood at No. 7 with average time spend standing at 3:32 hours.
Madhya Pradesh and Chattishgarh were at No. 8 with 3:31 hours while Odisha stood at No. 9 with an average time spend of 3:35 hours.
Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh and J&K were at No. 11 with an average of 3:18 hours.
Audience in West Bengal Regional Market were spending 3:09 hours before their TV sets while Assam, North East and Sikkim viewers were spending 3:08 hours.
Rajasthan people were spending 2:53 hours and people of UP and Uttarakhand were spending 2:52 hours.
