Chennai: The State Govt of Tamil Nadu has issued orders to withdraw 90 cases filed against various Journalists and Editors of Media Houses on charges of defamation and other offenses against the government filed during the period of 2012 to 2021, under the ruling period of the previous ADMK govt.
The list of cases withdrawn includes 4 cases filed against “The Hindu” Newspaper, 5 cases filed against the Editors of ‘Times of India’ and One case against ‘The Economic Times, 12 cases against ‘Dinamalar’ Newspaper.
In addition, 9 cases against ‘Anandha Vikatan’ weekly magazine, 11 cases against ‘Junior Vikatan” Political Magazine, 23 cases against Nakeeran Magazine, 17 cases against “Mirasoli” Newspaper (DMK Party mouthpiece), and 17 cases on Dinakaran Newspaper which part of the Sun Group.
Moreover, 7 defamation Cases filed against News Channels like PuthiyaThalaimurai TV, News7 Tamil, Sathyam TV, Captain TV, NDTV, Times Now, and Kalaignar TV were also withdrawn as per the order dated 27th July 2021.
Newly elected CM from DMK Govt, M K Stalin issued the order as part of its efforts to fulfill its poll promise that assured withdrawal of cases filed against journalists, Editors, and Media Houses.
