Chennai: Newly elected Chief Minister of Tamilnadu, M K Stalin has announced the appointment of Kurunji N Sivakumar as the new Chairman of the state-owned MSO, Tamilnadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation (TACTV). His appointment is effective from 6th July 2021. The position was vacant since 12th March 2021.
Kurunji N Sivakumar, who hails from Erode Town is a Civil Engineer with hands on experience in running Cable TV Network. He also heads various trade bodies like Erode Dist Cable TV Operators Welfare Association and Vice President of TN State MSO Welfare Association.
TACTV was launched on 4th October 2007 by then Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and it was further strengthened by J Jayalalitha’s Govt in order to suppress the domination of private operators in Cable TV distribution business, Offer cheap tariff to general public and also to protect the welfare of the small operators.
TACTV has been granted Digital Addressable System (DAS) licence by the Ministry of information and broadcasting in April 2017 and it is the only state-run MSO that has been awarded a DAS licence. According to the TRAI update as on September 2020, TACTV had 3,034,345 subscribers while TCCL had 3.045,216 subscribers. SUN TV promoters owned KAL Cables had 1,987,947 and Polimer TV promoter Kalyanasundaram owned VK Digital had 1,659,460.
