Chennai : Federation of Cable TV Associations a body collectively representing various CableTV Operators associations in Tamil Nadu has shot a notice to State Owned MSO Arasu Cable TV Corporation Ltd.
In his notice to the Arasu Cable Corporation’s MD, the Chief Coordinator of Federation of Cable TV Associations Mr D G V P Sekar had alleged that the State run MSO Arasu Cable is not delivering on its promises, specifically of eliminating monopoly in cable TV distribution in the State and safeguarding the interests of last mile operators. Instead, Arasu Cable had virtually forced the shutting down of 2400 control rooms all over TN which were owned and operated by their members.
He also added that Arasu Cable is claiming the ownership of the Cable TV subscriber base which was originally created by the local cable operators that puts a huge ambiguity on the future of the Local Cable Operators.
Moreover, he stated that Arasu Cable as an MSO hasn’t obliged the TRAI’s rule that mandates signing of contract between MSO and Local Cable Operators. It is also allowing Local Cable Channels that is also in complete violation of TRAI’s rules.
He also lamented the monopolistic behaviour of Arasu Cable that forces the Cable Operators to declare more Subscriber base proportionate to the no. of Government ration cards distributed in the respective area and altering the Pay Channel packages as per their whims and fancies that makes them answerable to the subscriber’s indignation.
Finally, Mr Sekar in his notice threatened of appropriate legal action within a period of one week, if Arasu Cable fails to take necessary steps to protect the welfare of the Cable Operators as promised.
