Tamil Nadu government apparently unhappy with the way of handling the issue related to Makkal TV has relieved off the General Manager K Priya, Apparently due to the ongoing issues with Makkal TV and various other Tamil Satellite channels.
Earlier, Arasu Cable TV has implemented a new tenders system in which the primary bands of Arasu Cable TV networks were allotted to the highest bidders of the auction. The tender has spiked up the carriage fee to the tune of Rs 63 Lacs per month for each channels.
Due to this tender process many channels like Makkal TV, Tamilan TV and many second level Tamil channels, which were available in prime band (S4 band) were shunted to low frequency band U40, as they didn’t participated in the Arasu Cable TV’s tender process. On the other hand tele shopping channels like naptol Tamil were positioned in the prime band as they came forward to pay the monthly carriage fees (around Rs 63 lacs) as per the tender process.
This resulted in many channels losing its reach, visibility and viewership that created a question mark on the future those channels. while, many aggrieved broadcasters reported this matter to government through a joint representation, Makkal TV has chosen to approach the court.
Moreover, PMK leader Ramdas also voiced for Makkal TV accusing the state government of favouring the ruling party channels. TN government seems to be unhappy with the whole issue has shunted out the entire top level team in Arasu Cable TV and also reinstated Makkal TV in prime band from Yesterday.
