International: TikTok in the US on 24th August 2020 has filed a complaint in the federal court challenging the Trump Administration’s efforts to ban the short-video creator app in the US. According to TikTok the executive order issued by the Trump Administration on August 6, 2020 has the potential to strip the rights of the over 100 million American TikTok community and 1500 employees in the US without any evidence to justify such an extreme action, and without any due process.
While TikTok disagrees with the Trump Administration’s position that claims the application to be a national security threat as TikTok had early articulated the objections previously. TikTok in their blog explains that it seems they have no choice but to take action to protect their rights and the rights of their community and employees.
With the issue of Executive Order threatening to bring a ban on our US operations which in a way eliminates the creation of 10,000 American jobs and millions of Americans who turn to this app for entertainment and vital livelihoods that are vital especially during the pandemic – we simply have no choice. TikTok believes that their legal challenge is a protection to ensure that with necessary efforts can take place without the threat of an unwarranted ban hovering like a dark cloud over the joy and creativity of the community.
TikTok’s future really hangs in the balance, only time will tell as to what will happen.
