Mumbai: Supari Studios, a Mumbai-based content studio, were announced winners for the ‘Best Series (unscripted)’ at the Critics’ Choice Series and Shorts Awards (CCSSA) held in association with The Film Critics Guild and Motion Content Group. The award was received for the series ‘This is My Hood’, a docu-series created by Supari Studios and Red Bull Media House.
This is My Hood is a non-fiction series that travels to neighborhoods across Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai, and tells the stories of people who keep the hip-hop scene in India alive.
The docu series highlights how rap battles gave rise to a flourishing scene in Delhi, how local breakers discovered an abandoned warehouse in Lake Gardens and made it their own, how the village of Marol became an unexpected breeding ground for graffiti artists and breakers through support from residents, and how folk music in the suburb of Vyasarpadi was used as the base for rap and RnB artists in the impoverished Chennai neighbourhood.
Every episode has a different vibe staying true to the city and the hood it is covering. What ties them all together in a series is the fact that hip-hop is thriving in these diverse neighborhoods and has developed a language of its own.
Commenting on this win, Akshat Gupt, Co-founder and CCO, Supari Studios said, “We were thrilled to know that we have been nominated for the Web Series Award alongside some of our favourite shows. And now owning this award means a lot to our entire team. Our association with Red Bull Media House has come a long way and we love working collaboratively to spread stories of people from different backgrounds and making an impact.”
