Nominations are being invited until September 10, 2023 for the inaugural Jethmalani Prize in Journalism, under ‘Will of Steel Awards’.
The Will of Steel Awards are run by The Sunday Guardian Foundation, informed organisers.
Nominations are being invited in three categories from Indian journalists and media: Journalism in Service to Humanity, Legal Journalism and Empowerment.
The Journalism in Service to Humanity category winner will get a cash prize of Rs.14 lakh. The other awards will carry a citation and cash prize of Rs.1,11,000.
Winners are to be announced at a televised ceremony on September 15, 2023 in New Delhi.
The awards have been constituted on the 14th day of September 2023 to honour the birth centenary year late lawyer Ram Jethmalani.
Beginning with India, the award will evolve to recognise public service in journalism worldwide, according to the awards website.
The jury for the inaugural edition includes Justice Sharad A Bobde, Former Chief Justice of India (Jury Chair); Dr. Harivansh Narayan Singh, Dy. Chairperson, Rajya Sabha; Dr. Sasmit Patra, Rajya Sabha MP; Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, Founder, Biocon; Prof Madhav Nalapat, Editorial Director, The Sunday Guardian; Raghu Rai, Photographer; Shekhar Mehta, Former President, Rotary International; Kalyani Shankar, Senior Journalist; and Atul Kasbekar, Photographer.
