The first half of 2022 saw some big titles hitting the box-office and getting the audiences back to theatres. Some movies gained big while few struggled as it’s the content that matters and not the stars anymore. The same formula applies to web series as well.
IMDb, the popular and authoritative source for information on movies, TV shows, and celebrities, unveiled the most popular Indian films and web series of the year (so far) from 1st January 2022 to 5th July 2022. It includes movies released theatrically or digitally and web series rated 7 or higher on IMDb. These titles generated the most IMDb page views in India within a four-week post-release window, based on IMDbPro data.
The Kashmir Files starrer Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumar, led the most popular Indian films list with IMDb rating of 8.3 followed by K.G.F: Chapter 2 starrer Yash, Sanjay Dutt with 8.5 at second position and RRR (Rise Roar Revolt) starrer Ram Charan and Jr NTR with 8.0 at third position. Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai Kathiawadi took fourth position with IMDb rating of 7.0 followed by Kamal Haasan’s Vikram with 8.8 at fifth position and Amitabh Bachchan’s Jhund with 7.4 at sixth position.
Remaining films featured were Samrat Prithviraj starrer Akshay Kumar, Manushi Chillar with 7.2 at seventh position, Runway 34 starrer Ajay Devgan, Amitabh Bachchan with 7.2 at eight position, Yami Gautam’s A Thursday with 7.8 at ninth position and Hridayam starrer Pranav Mohanlal, Kalyani Priyadarshan at tenth position with 8.1 IMDb rating.
Among the top 10 most popular Indian web series, three each were from the streaming giants Disney+ Hotstar and Netflix.
Campus Diaries (MX Player) bagged the top position followed by The Great Indian Murder (Disney+ Hotstar) at second position and Rocket Boys (Sony Liv) at third position. Panchayat (Prime Video) claimed the fourth position followed by Human (Disney+ Hotstar) at fifth position and Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein (Netflix) at sixth position. Apharan (Voot & ALTBalaji) stood at seventh position followed by Escaype Live (Disney+ Hotstar) at eight position, Mai (Netflix) at ninth position and The Fame Game (Netflix) at tenth position.
