Chennai: The Hindu Group has been awarded two golds and a silver at the South Asian Digital Media Awards at the WAN-IFRA (World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers) India 2017 conference in Chennai.
www.thehindu.com won the Gold award for the Best News Website. The Hindu’s site, which is India’s oldest newspaper website, is fully responsive, adapting seamlessly to different devices and screen sizes. www.sportstarlive.com, the sports website from The Hindu Group, won the silver award in the Best in Lifestyle, Sports or Entertainment Website category. Entries in these categories were evaluated based on criteria such as strong content quality, consistency in user experience, innovative design, use of multimedia and ease of navigation.
The gold award in the Best Innovation to Engage Youth Audiences category went to www.youngworldclub.com, The Hindu Group’s learning portal for children. Theevaluation in this category was based on effectiveness in engaging youth audiences, especially children and teenagers.
This year, the winners of South Asian Digital Media Awards were chosen from nine categories — best news website, best in lifestyle, sports or entertainment website, best digital advertising campaign, best use of online video, best data visualisation, best news mobile service, best lifestyle, sports or entertainment mobile services, best innovation new product, best in social media engagement, and best innovation to engage youth audiences.
The awards, presented by WAN-IFRA and Google, recognise publishers who have adopted digital media and mobile strategies as part of their total product offering to meet the major changes in how people consume news today. The winners will subsequently compete for the World Digital Media Awards.
