Hyderabad : Jabardasth, the most popular and top rated Telugu comedy show on Eenadu TV, has run into trouble once again. Few weeks ago, a lawyer had filed complaint against the show for taking a dig at the judicial system and now, the show has rubbed a section of the people from the ‘Goud’ community on the wrong side.
In an episode which was aired on 18th December, a skit performed by a team, portrayed the lifestyle of women belonging to the Goud community and toddy tappers in a bad light.
Taking a strong objection to the entire episode, a group of students from Osmania University filed a complaint against the show at the OU police station.
The students reportedly urged the police officials to file criminal charges against the TV show’s makers, the judges (Naga Babu and Roja) and the ETV channel, which airs the show.
However, the police officials have told the students that they will look into the issue before taking a final decision about what charges can be filed on the makers of the comedy show.
But the issues failed to stop there as the small screen comedian who performed the skit was attacked on Sunday by a group of persons belonging to Goud community at Film Nagar here for allegedly indulging in “offensive portrayal” of their caste in a comedy show.
“Comedian Venu was assaulted by members of a community, who accused him of offending their community and hurting their sentiments through his acts in a comedy show on a Telugu channel,” ACP D Uday Kumar Reddy told PTI.
Police immediately rushed to the spot and rescued Venu by dispersing his attackers, he said, adding the artist later lodged a complaint with Banjara Hills police station.
A case for voluntarily causing hurt, wrongful restraint and criminal intimidation under relevant sections of IPC has been registered on the complaint of the actor.
The ACP said that some members of the community also lodged a complaint against Venu for “offending” their caste, following which a case was registered against him and organisers of the comedy show on television.
The Comedy show ”Jabardasth” and ”Extra Jabardasth” which was made in lines of ”Comedy Nights with Kapil” is known for its hitting-under-the-belt comedy scripts with extra spicy vulgarity laced in the form of Comedy skit.
Eenadu TV is heavily dependent on these shows as they are the only chart toppers for the channel and the market with almost all their fiction shows failing to stand on par with that of Zee Telugu and Maa TV which are the real competitors in the Market.
While other ETV channel like ETV Kannada, ETV Marathi and ETV Bangla etc. are able to fight hard and position themselves as a most happening Brands in the respective market after being acquired by Network 18. Its Telugu GEC Eenadu TV alone is being managed by the erstwhile team of Ramoji Group and it is constantly failing to connect with the current trends and expectation of the audience with outdated scripts.
