Be it cheering for Team India or their favorite IPL franchise or the enjoying newest drama soap ruling the rating charts; the average Indian family’s entertainment needs always include sports, films, and television soaps.
With all the OTT ‘noise’ and the turbulent times the television industry has gone through in the past year and certainly continues to through even now; we certainly see that TV watching is growing. Households love watching TV, and we don’t claim this statement and numbers certainly don’t lie.

Despite the NTO hassle, there has not been a lot of change in the movie viewing habit on television as it is still a big thing in India, be it a movie premiere or movies that are a complete entertainer, the audience still prefers watching it on the television sets as the experience is completely different from what one would experience while watching it on an OTT platform.
The recent World Television Premiere of ‘Marjaavaan’ on SONY MAX saw huge numbers, According to BARC, the premiere had 31mn viewers glued onto their TV sets. This equals to a whopping total of 989mn viewing minutes.
Hindi Movie premiere of ‘Panipat’ on ZEE Cinema also saw 27mn viewers enjoying the film with a total of 719mn viewing minutes. These movies on respective channels have paid off well at least in terms of viewership. And revenue-wise? Well, one wouldn’t know that. What one can be certain about is that the promotions for both these films respectively did pay off well for the brands.
With the dark cloud of Covid-19 that has covered not only our country but the whole world, one expects to see such whopping numbers for the movie channel genre. Let’s wait and watch.
