Mumbai: DTH Platform Tata Sky is likely to cancel channels or packs for about 7 million subscribers starting from June 15 as part of its efforts to reduce their monthly billing charges and arrest the dwindling volume of customers.
With this move, Tat Sky aims to bring down the monthly billing of Rs 350 monthly or less and make it attractive and affordable for the subscribers as the company had lost over 1.5 million customers over the past two months due to unaffordable pricing practices.
According to Harit Nagpal, the Managing Director of Tata Sky has witnessed one million inactive subscribers came back to our platform in March 2020, once the lockdown was implemented. However, 1 million went out in April 2020 and another half a million didn’t recharge in May 2020.
Moreover, the company’s analytics team found that deactivation was mostly by subscribers with monthly billing of less than Rs 400. Hence, the DTH platform to trying to address their pain points by dropping unwanted channels from then pack and trim the cost of packs, thus making it pocket friendly for the subscribers.
According to media reports, Tata Sky has recently removed 26 Channels from its FTA Complimentary pack that includes News World India, Sadhna TV, ABZY Movies, I love Pen Studios, Aaho Music, Patrika TV Rajasthan, NewsX, Kalaignar TV, Polimer TV, IsaiAruvi, Murasu, Makkal TV, Peppers TV, Sirippoli, Polimer News, Seithigal, Sathiyam TV, India News Gujarat, India News Haryana, India News Punjab, India News Rajasthan, Bharat Samachar, News 7 Tamil, Sahara Samay MP/ Chhattisgarh, Jai Maharashtra, and Sathiyam TV.
However, the channels removed from FTA complimentary pack will continue to be available on the a-la-carté basis with applicable NCF.
