London: The Swedish-French drama Midnight Sun has clinched a U.K. slot and is now set to debut on Sky Atlantic in early 2017.
The series was licensed by STUDIOCANAL, which has lined up a host of other international broadcasters for the drama, including ZDF in Germany, SBS in Australia and HOT in Israel. Midnight Sun is a Canal+/SVT/Filmpool Nord co-production from Atlantique Productions and Nice Drama.
Zai Bennett, the director of programs for Sky Entertainment UK and Ireland, said: “Midnight Sun is a brilliant addition to our bumper lineup of Sky Atlantic programming in 2017, with new award-winning drama airing exclusively on the channel every month. I’ve no doubt that our customers will love this incredibly clever and thought-provoking thriller.”
Danny Perkins, CEO at STUDIOCANAL UK, commented, “We’re delighted to see Midnight Sun find its perfect U.K. home with Sky and I’d like to thank Katheryn Needham, our head of TV and digital for the U.K. and Ireland, for working with the team at Sky to conclude this deal. There continues to be strong demand in the U.K. for intelligent, thought-provoking internationally produced drama and Midnight Sun represents the absolute best in this genre.”
Katrina Neylon, the executive VP of sales and marketing at STUDIOCANAL, added, “Since its high-profile launch at MIPCOM in October, Midnight Sun has gone from strength to strength on the international stage. Its high production values, alongside an absorbing and internationally-relevant story line, offer great appeal across multiple platforms—and we look forward to following the success of this compelling thriller in the U.K. when it airs in 2017.”
