Bengaluru: Star India’s Kannada GEC is witnessing a steady drop in the past couple of months with stiff competition from Udaya TV, ETV Kannada and Zee Kannada heating up day by day.
The channel at once achieved the distinction of being the first alternate to achieve the top spot in Kannada GEC market, replacing Udaya TV from the No.1 position, has lost its track after achieving the numero-uno position.
The ratings of week 42 has given a major blow to Suvarna as it has not only lost 60 GRPs in a single week, but also dropped down to third position in the Kannada GEC table. The channel managed to scored 297 GRP in week 42 against 357 GRP in week 41. on the other hand ETV Kannada has gained 25 GRPs by scoring 350 GRP in week 42 against 325 in week 41 and clinched the No.2 GEC spot from Suvarna.
Suvarna’s loss has benefitted both ETV Kannada and Zee Kannada as later had gained 36 GRP, week over week from 192 to 228 from week 41 and 42 respectively and Zee Kannada stood at No. 4
Market sources confirmed that the huge loss is in fact a shocking development to the channel itself, as they expected to make-good the loss of “Bigg Boss Kannada – 2” with the immediate launch of new season of their popular and successful reality “Pyate Hudgira Halli Life 3”. However, the new season managed to opened up very moderately in Week 41, which was also a disappointment for the channel’s programming team.
Apart from the heavy competition, Suvarna’s steady drop is also due to its falling ground in Fiction line-up, with almost all its warhorses like Amruthavarshini are aging with 1000+ episodes that resulted in viewership fatigue, as they are running for years together and failure of the newly launched properties to achieve stability in the market.
While the Producers of Suvarna are celebrating the completion of their 700th, 1000th and 1250th episodes, the channel is pitiably witnessing its drop from 1st position to 2nd to 3rd and heading towards 4th position as Zee Kannda is also catching up with just 70 odd GRPs behind Suvarna.
