Chennai: The leading Tamil satellite channel Sun TV is likely to replace one of its oldest prime time serial “Thendral” that started off in December 2009. The show which is being aired at 9PM every Monday to Saturday has completed 1303 episodes as on 2nd December.
Market sources confirmed that the producer of the show Thendral – Vikatan Televistas is gearing up for the replacement with a new show after ‘Pongal Festival’ preferably by third week of January 2015. The new show replacing ‘Thendral’ went on floor last week and the promotion activities are likely to be initiated by first week of January.
Earlier, ‘Thendral’ @ 9PM used to be on top of the rating charts next to ‘Daiva Magal” @ 8 PM time slot, which is considered as the Super Prime Time of Sun TV. However, for the past couple of months ‘Vamsam’ @ 8:30PM and ‘Nadasawaram’ @ 7:30PM started climbing up ahead of ‘Thendral’ that prompted the channel to think of replacing the grand old war horse. During many occasions ‘Vamsam’ with a formidable storyline managed to snatched the top position from “Daiva Magal” too.
While, Thendral was directed by S. Kumaran who also happen to be the Director of ‘Daiva Magal’ the new project replacing ‘Thendral’ is being directed by ‘Bala Prasad’ who directed popular shows like Radikaa’s “Arasi”. He is also a promising assistant of film director ‘Samuthra Kani’. The Story Screenplay of the new show is being penned by ‘Amirtha Raj’
