Chennai : The Tamil month of ‘Margazhi’ which falls in December every year is always considered as a rejuvenation period for Karnatick Singers and Musicians. It is equally a celebration time for Classical music lover.
Leading Television channel in TN Market like Vijay TV and Jaya TV were cashing in on the ‘Margazhi Moods’ for many years. But, the Market leader Sun TV never took it seriously. However, there seems to be a change in the Channel’s approach towards ‘Margazhi Season’ from this year, as the Channel wants to seal the competition with the launch of ”Margazhi Maha Utsavam”
The program will mark a fortnight long celebration of Margazhi season on Sun TV that started on 15th December, scheduled @ 6.00 to 7.00 AM everyday that will go till 29th December.
The ‘Margazhi Maha Utsavam’ was an event which was very popular on Jaya TV until last year and it always attracted the participation of leading Karnatic singers.
‘Margazhi Maha Utsavam’ on Jaya TV always grabbed sizeable amount of Karnatic music lovers, during the December Margazhi season. However, the event has fallen apart from the channel this year breaking its decade long association for unknown reasons.
Whereas, the event’s popularity among the audience landed the program in doors of market leader Sun TV and it is expected to become even better from this year onwards.
The event was produced by Subashree Thanikacalam, a well known television producer, who created popular singing talent shows like ‘Sapathaswarangal’ on Sun TV, Ragamalika, Magalir Matturm on Jaya TV. She is also very popular for organizing Margazhi season events in various locations all over Tamil Nadu, India and abroad.
Market sources also confirmed that Sun TV has restricted the content of the program with Tamil songs only as a matter of channel’s programming policy.
