SunSTRATEGIC started three years ago but was conceived in 2011, in Central Park, New York, while having breakfast with my father. After studying and working for A grade companies in USA for 13 years I decided I need to do something of my own. Getting a green card and settling in a high paying job really was not the end goal of my existence.I spent years working and witnessing how content can be diversified. EVERY INDIAN IS A UNIQUE BRAND. Hence, I decided to start my entrepreneurial venture in India.
I left India when I was 17. I already had established myself in USA. But I craved for a challenge. So a new country, a new venture and an adventure which will be welcoming of new ideas was what I sought.
- As a successful professional, which woman has inspired you the most?
Professionally, Nastygal’s story of Sophia Amoruso is my inspiration. A 22 year old college dropout who was practically homeless and a high school dropout, opened up a side biz selling vintage clothes which turned into a 100 million grossing company. How can you not be inspired?
Personally, the woman I look up to every single day is my mother. She is someone who has taught me how to take charge of my own life and write my own destiny. She is an embodiment of a strong-headed woman and inspiring me everyday to achieve greatness.
- Behind every successful man there is a woman. Do you agree? Would you say the reverse is true for a successful woman too?
Nobody is behind anyone’s success except their own beliefs and commitment. Behind every successful woman is her passion and willingness to pursue her dreams. Sure, we all need some support that pushes us towards our goals, to make sure we never give up. But it is only you who can be responsible for your work and achievements. So I do not really agree to the notion that someone is behind someone’s success. Every new day brings with it a new challenge, which you have to attempt on your own and excel in. And your excellence is what makes you successful.
- Today, do you think being a man is an advantage Or it’s all about good business?
We still have people who would prefer a male boss over a female boss. But, slowly and steadily, things are changing. Women are taking charge of their lives and there are people acknowledging them and supporting them. We have several successful businesswomen recognized for their remarkable work. And that right there is a step towards becoming an advantage on your own. It is all about good business today. Your business and your quality of work holds power in the entrepreneur’s world. Focus on working passionately and ethically and let your work speak for you.
- Finally, any tips for the aspiring entrepreneurs, especially woman entrepreneurs?
For women, I would like to say that they have a natural strength of adjusting and adapting to people, circumstances and mindsets. That’s exactly what a woman running a startup needs. Also, that they must try and support other women. I myself send a lot of business to other women entrepreneurs.
My advice to all the aspiring entrepreneurs is – always keep your emotions at home. We are here for business, it’s not personal. Do whatever it takes to nurture your business.
Lastly, never give up. During my journey many unforeseen events happened where I contemplated shutting down. But I didn’t, because success doesn’t come overnight, you have to work unbreakably for it.
