Mumbai: Fremantle Media India is producing the Hindi version of Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) owned format Lip Sync Battle. With this deal Viacom has signed its first-ever format license agreement in India.
Lip Sync Battle will be aired at 10 PM on Saturdays and Sundays on Star India’s general-entertainment channel Star Plus. The adaptation, which is due to debut on 16th September onwards, will feature some of the country’s most famous celebrities Bollywood, television and sports.
Farah Khan is all set to make a come back on small screen with this new venture and she will be hosting show along with Ali Sagar. In this show, renowned celebrities will be seen competing against each to perform the best lip sync of famous songs with the help of props and costumes.
Laura Burrell, the head of formats, international program sales at VIMN, stated, “We are thrilled to partner with FremantleMedia to create a Hindi version of Lip Sync Battle. Breaking into the competitive Indian market is testament to the universal appeal of the format, which has had people laughing and gasping the world over since it first launched in 2015. With a number of Bollywood stars already lining up to take part in the show, we can guarantee that this colorful adaptation is certainly going to have the ‘wow factor!’”
AradhanaBhola, the managing director of FremantleMedia India, added: “We are delighted to bring Viacom’s Lip Sync Battle to Indian viewers. As producers, we were drawn to its intrinsic craziness, over-the-top competitiveness and ultimate show-off surprises. We hope that the viewers have as much fun watching it as we have had producing it for Star Plus.”
Star Plus is struggling to pull-up its weekend prime time due to lack of a strong fiction or Non-fiction property. The recently launched high investment project Aarambh has failed to deliver and in-fact ended up as the biggest disaster.
