Mumbai: “Sau sahi kaam kar lo koi yaad nahi rakhta, ek galat ilzaam aur sabne bhula diya” says a dejected Emraan Hashmi in the movie Azhar. The movie documents the highs and lows of Mohammad Azharuddin’s life by offering a detailed insight into the ace cricketer’s career. Sony MAX is all set to give its audience a power- packed punch full of cricket and entertainment with the World Television Premiere of ‘Azhar’ on 14th August at 8pm.
Directed by Tony D’Souza, Azhar brilliantly captures every bit of Mohammad Azharuddin’s life with Emraan Hashmi, Nargis Fakhri and Prachi Desai in pivotal roles and Lara Dutta and Kunal Roy Kapur in supporting roles. The movie showcases Emraan Hashmi beautifully metamorphosing into Azhar who is fascinated by the lure of easy money and the glamorous world of cricket.
This fictionalization covers every facet of Azharuddin’s life- his relationship with his two wives, Naureen (Prachi) and Sangeeta (Nargis Fakhri), his equation with the Indian cricket team and his downfall because of the match- fixing allegations hurled at him.
Actor Emraan Hashmi said, “I was very excited to play Azhar. I felt there is a very special story about his life… His humble beginnings in Hyderabad, how he came to the Indian cricket team, became the captain and led India to so many victories. It’s a story of a fallen hero, which I found interesting. He’s a great teacher. We bonded over a lot of conversations about his life. There was practice session for almost 3 hours every day and I used to watch him and imbibe things from his game.”
