The Singapore Media Festival’s (SMF) keystone digital event, SMF Ignite, took place over two exciting days on 28 and 29 November 2017 that saw the media industry come together to learn, network, create and collaborate. This year, in line with SMF’s focus on emerging technology and digital innovation, SMF Ignite saw two threads focusing on Virtual Reality (VR X SMF Ignite) and digital content creation (Creators X SMF Ignite).
As part of VR X SMF Ignite, a one-day conference was organised, bringing together technologists, creators, developers and users to exchange insights on the VR ecosystem and discuss how the new paradigm can create opportunities for businesses in media. It saw a strong line-up of local and international speakers and subject matter experts such as Creative Director and Visual Effects supervisor, ILMxLAB (USA), Mohen Leo (pictured above), deliver keynotes on various topics such as immersive entertainment and storytelling as well as VR in enterprise solutions.
Digital creators at Creators X SMF Ignite had a day of networking and workshops, getting to know more about building transmedia IPs, content marketing, brand storytelling, and how to design content for VR/AR. The event culminated in a grand challenge that saw teams of creators collaborating, conceptualising and presenting their ideas to a panel of industry veterans.
The winners were announced last evening at the conclusion of the two-day event – Trevor Tham (@trevmonki), Keiji Umehara (@umeharakeiji) and Angela Tan (@lovevieruff) won the award for Top Integration prize for their idea on a social media-driven variety programme (pictured on left), while Wang Xiaofan (@untamed_little_wolf), Lim Xin Hui Ynex (@ynezzzz_), Thomas Kopankiewicz (@blysk_tk) and Louis Tyler Sim (@louistylersim) won the awards for both the Top Innovation and Best Storytelling categories for their marketing campaign on Korean blockbuster film, Train to Busan, which involved localising the movie for a Singaporean audience.
The fourth edition of the Singapore Media Festival runs from 23 November to 3 December 2017 and brings together established events, including the Singapore International Film Festival (SGIFF), Asian Television Awards (ATA), Asia TV Forum & Market (ATF), ScreenSingapore, and SMF Ignite.
