Mumbai: ShortsTV, the world’s first and only 24/7 linear TV channel dedicated to short films, has announced its collaboration with the India Film Project, and will create an on-air showcase for the winning films of 2019 and will air the winners of this year’s challenge.
IFP’s flagship 50 HOUR FILMMAKING CHALLENGE was initiated in 2011 and has quickly grown into one of the world’s largest creative collaborations, amassing over 165,000 filmmakers from 30 countries who have participated in the Challenge in the last nine years. In addition to the Challenge, the Festival fosters creativity through conversations and workshops that explore the widest range of storytelling in film, in digital mediums, in literature and music.
Commenting on their partnership with IFP, Mr. Carter Pilcher, Chief Executive of Shorts TV, said “ShortsTV is the world’s leading advocate for creators in the short form space. Our partnership with the India Film Project is a perfect match. We are seeing enormous audience interest in short films and other forms of short content in India, and are thrilled to give our audiences a glimpse into such a furnace of creativity that is the India Film Project. Making a successful film in 50 hours requires enormous skill and teamwork, and last year’s winners show just how competitive the world of independent cinema in India is becoming.”
Ritam Bhatnagar, founder of India Film Project said, “Short films have always been facing the issue of a proper distribution mechanism on non-digital mediums. Shorts TV has brought that much needed change. A short film made over a weekend going on a television is a dream come true for the creator. Shorts TV is enabling that for thousands of people each day”.
