Chennai: After braving himself out of the string-hopper entanglement of 2G Case, Sharad Kumar – the former Managing Director of Kalaignar TV is looking forward to reactivate his professional life in the avatar of an angel investor in Broadcasting Space. He is also planning to explore the world of New Media by mentoring the Startups that comes with promising ideas.
Talking about his future plans to Times of India, Sharad expressed his desire to explore the industry that is close to his heart and stated, “Broadcasting has been my passion and it continues to be. It is all I know. But then the world of broadcasting has changed over the years, especially in the past couple of years. There are new formats, and newer platforms that have come about. From over-reliance on the distribution strength, the market has moved to a liberated content delivery mechanism through digital means.”
While conveying his plans on taking the investment route, he also articulated his desire to explore the technology and content side of business and said, “I sense there are still some very good opportunities, especially in the content co-creation and the technology side of broadcasting business. I am evaluating opportunities to invest and mentor startups which have good teams and solid ideas that I can contribute and add value to.”
Regarded as one of the most knowledgeable Broadcast Professional in the country, Sharad has the acumen in all aspects of broadcasting such as Content, Distribution, Strategy, Technology and Marketing. He was the force behind the successful launch and scaling up of Gemini TV in Telugu GEC market and Udaya TV in Kannada GEC market as both the channels ruled the respective markets for more than a decade under his leadership.
