Mumbai: As Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) gears up to celebrate its 25th anniversary this July, speculation is rife about who could potentially replace the iconic host, Amitabh Bachchan, if he steps down next season.
In a recent survey conducted by the Indian Institute of Human Brands (IIHB) and Rediffusion’s Red Lab, Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan emerged as the most preferred successor, securing 63% of the votes. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, with 51% support, followed closely behind. Other contenders included cricket legend MS Dhoni (37%), renowned commentator Harsha Bhogle (32%), and veteran actor Anil Kapoor (15%).
Interestingly, 42% of respondents expressed their desire for Mr. Bachchan to continue as host for as long as possible. Bachchan’s hosting style has won hearts for its empathy, humility, and approachable demeanor, making him an integral part of KBC’s success.
Shahrukh Khan, who previously hosted KBC’s third season, has witnessed a career resurgence in recent years, strengthening his appeal as a front-runner for the coveted role. Aishwarya Rai’s strong showing in the poll suggests she could extend the Bachchan family’s connection with the popular quiz show.
MS Dhoni’s post-retirement popularity has translated into a credible 37% support for his potential as a KBC host, while Harsha Bhogle’s cerebral personality and strong communication skills secured him 32% backing.
Dr. Sandeep Goyal, Chief Mentor of IIHB and Chairman of Rediffusion, commented on the survey’s findings, noting that the inclusion of figures like Shashi Tharoor and Chetan Bhagat in the top 10 reflects a shift in audience perception, with a growing acceptance of non-film personalities taking on the KBC mantle.
Sony TV has yet to announce its plans for the 17th season of KBC, but the latest survey results may influence the broadcaster’s decision as they prepare for a possible transition from the iconic Amitabh Bachchan.
