Former chief of marketing in Mastercard, Sam Ahmed, is taking on a new role at Standard Chartered. Standard Chartered has confirmed the move to Marketing.
He will join the brand and marketing team in April as global head, retail and digital marketing. He will be based in Singapore and report to Emma Sheller, global head, brand and marketing. Most recently, holding the global digital lead role at the bank was Damien Cummings.
Ahmed had been with Mastercard since 2013. He held the dual role of CMO and senior vice president of marketing in Asia Pacific. According to Mastercard, Ahmed was instrumental in establishing the organisation’s digital marketing strategy across the region, and the development and execution of many successful campaigns.
In a statement Ahmed said, “It’s an honour to be joining such a trusted and respected brand. I gained great respect for the standard chartered leadership and team while I partnered with them over the last three years. We are going into an exciting era where the two worlds are merging. Digital used to sit on one end and retail on another. In the middle we had e-commerce. Today all those worlds of digital, retail, e-commerce, online & offline and search are coming together in the eyes of the consumer,” he said.
On his time spent in Mastercard, he added, “I loved the time I had in Mastercard, transforming the digital e-commerce and payment landscape in the fastest growing region in the world,” he added.
