The channel has announced the Tamilan Awards for the year 2014 in recognition of various eminent personalities and their achievements and contribution towards the country and society.
There are many categories under which the distinguished people are being select such as Social Services, Industry, Tamil Literature, The Arts and Sports. Each category has a two sub divisions under which an Eminent achiever and Promising Star of the Future will be recognised.
The award felicitation ceremony held on 26th July 2014 had acknowledged Dr. Ko. Nachiaar of Aravind Eye Hospital for her social services while Gandhian Mr. R. Elango was conferred the Promising Star of the future in same category.
Mr. Ranganathan of Cavinkare was awarded as the best Industrialist and Mr. Jegannathan was recognised as the Promising Star for his efforts towards promoting Organic Farming through his initiative “Nalla Sandhai”.
ISRO Scientist Subbiah Arunan was conferred Tamilan Award under Science & Technology and Dr. Indra Arulchelvi was honoured as the Promising Star for her efforts towards protecting the traditional paddy crop and her research on medicinal values.
Under Tamil Literature category Lyricist Vairamuthu and Writer R.Venkatesh were awarded with Tamilan award and Promising star respectively. While former Indian cricketer Krish. Srikanth was recognized with Tamilan Award under sports Category and the athletic dashing star Deepika was recognized as the promising star under the same category.
Legend Musician M.S. Viswanathan awarded under Arts Category and Buddha Music Forum “Manimaran” was selected as the Promising Star of Arts category.
The Grand award distribution function held in the presence of various dignitaries from all walks of life held on 26th July at “Chennai Trade Centre” will be aired on 15th August on Puthiyathalaimura TV to mark the occasion of Independence day.
