New Delhi: Punit Goenka, the current CEO of Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL), has withdrawn his consent for reappointment as the Managing Director (MD) of the company, as per a recent exchange filing. This follows his resignation from the MD role on November 18, 2024, a move that will allow him to focus on his CEO responsibilities.
In a letter shared with exchanges, ZEEL confirmed that Goenka would no longer seek reappointment as MD for the upcoming term, which was previously proposed to run from January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2029. The reappointment had been subject to shareholder approval at the company’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), set for November 28, 2024.
Earlier, on October 18, 2024, the ZEEL board had approved the proposal for Goenka’s reappointment, along with enhanced performance targets for his continued leadership. However, his recent resignation from the MD position will now take precedence. Goenka, the son of media magnate Subhash Chandra, had been managing both the CEO and MD roles at ZEEL.
