Following last week’s media reports suggesting that Prime Video, the renowned OTT giant, had acquired MX Player, owned by the Times Internet, Prime Video has come forward with a clarification. Contrary to the speculations, Prime Video has affirmed that it has not acquired MX Player but instead has entered into an agreement to purchase certain assets from the platform.
Responding to a query from MediaNews4U, Prime Video emphasised that the transaction is still underway and has not been finalized. This clarification aims to dispel any confusion stemming from the earlier reports regarding the nature of the deal between the two prominent streaming platforms.
Amazon spokesperson said, “We are always looking for ways to introduce new products and services that help improve customers’ lives. We’re excited to continue to entertain India with the great local originals and exclusive content available across our Prime Video and miniTV services in India.”
By opting for an asset purchase agreement with MX Player, Prime Video aims to leverage specific elements of MX Player’s platform to enhance its own offerings, thereby catering to the evolving preferences of its audience.
As the transaction progresses, both Prime Video and MX Player are expected to provide further updates regarding the specifics of the deal.
