New Delhi: The Press Council of India has announced the winners of the National Awards for Excellence in Journalism 2018 on the occasion of National Press Day. The winners will be honor winners. Eminent journalist and Chairman the Hindu Publishing Group, N Ram, has been chosen under the prestigious award category of ‘Raja Ram Mohan Roy award’.
It may be noted that recently N. Ram voluntarily appeared before the Chennai court during the arbitrary arrest of ‘Weekly Magazine Editor NakeeranGopal’ and submitted that there was no relation to Secton 124 and the case in question and no journalist had been arrested under this section. He also told the judge that if such an arrest was allowed, it would set a dangerous precedent and police all over India would resort to such practices.The court dismissed the case based on his views.
The Council has jointly awarded Ruby Sarkar, Chief Correspondent, Deshbandhu (Bhopal), and Rajesh ParshuramJoshte of Daily Pudhari (Ratnagiri), under the category of Rural Journalism.
The Deputy Editor of Kerala Kaumudi, V.S Rajesh, has been selected under the award category of ‘Developmental Reporting’ while Subhash Paul of Rashtriya Sahara, will be awarded in the category of ‘Photo Journalism-Single News Picture’.
Narasimha, Cartoon Editor, Nava Telangana, Hyderabad, has been selected for the award category of “Best Newspaper Art: covering cartoons, caricature and illustrations’.
Mihir Singh, Photo Journalsit, Punjab Kesari, Delhi, has been selected in the category of “Photo Journalsim-Photo Feature’.
Jury comprising Owners and Managers representing carried out the Selection of awardees. The winners will be honoureat the Press Day celebration on 16th November at National Media Center – New Delhi.
