Mumbai: Prasar Bharati, India’s public broadcaster, is all set to launch its much-anticipated streaming platform at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa on November 20, 2024. The platform, which has been under development for over a year, will feature a rich archive of content from Doordarshan and All India Radio. The inauguration of the platform will be carried out by Information and Broadcasting Minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw, as confirmed by Prasar Bharati’s Chairperson, Navneet Kumar Sehgal.
The new OTT service will offer live TV streaming, including sports, and will showcase exclusive content commissioned and licensed by Prasar Bharati. Additionally, the platform has partnered with leading producers such as Eros Now and Lionsgate, offering their content through paid apps within the service. While the name and logo of the platform remain under wraps, they will be revealed on the day of the launch, along with a unique audio identity, akin to Netflix’s iconic “tudum” sound.
The platform will be accessible on Android, iOS, and via a website. Developed by PSU RailTel and utilizing AWS for content delivery, the service will provide content in multiple formats, including standard definition, high definition, and 4K. Initially, the platform will be a free, ad-supported service (AVOD), with plans for premium subscription offerings in the future.
The service is designed to handle up to 10 million concurrent users at launch, with scalability to support up to 100 million users, as per its tender specifications. This launch marks a significant step for Prasar Bharati in expanding its digital presence and delivering diverse, high-quality content to a wider audience.
