Mumbai: PlusOne has designed the packaging for newly launched ‘Enkay’ in the US, the D2C luxury brand of Jaipur Rugs. It works in the rugs and social business sector. Enkay supports artisans and communities by using 100% natural materials to create soulful, designer home goods, directly connecting artisans with consumers.
Targeting 35-65-year-old females in the US with high disposable incomes, each Enkay rug features nearly a million hand-tied knots, resulting in uniquely beautiful, heirloom-quality pieces with timeless textures and classy colors. To enhance the customer experience, Enkay sought a packaging solution that maintained product integrity and offered sustainability. PlusOne Design was chosen to create affordable, luxurious packaging solutions for rug swatches, pillows, and various rug sizes.
“We spent time understanding the customer journey at every touchpoint. For example, swatch packaging needed to be convenient for home use, while larger rug packaging required ease of movement and removal. We meticulously considered factors such as cost-effective solutions for different rug sizes and courier packing in the USA” said Gautam Patil, founder, head design PlusOne
Inspired by Enkay’s handmade and natural products, PlusOne chose natural cotton canvas for its tenacity and beauty. Drawing inspiration from roll-top backpacks, they created a smart, one-size-fits-all rug packaging that rolls over at the top. The result was beautiful handmade designer bags in neutral color canvas with adjustable belts, offering a luxurious, sustainable play of textures that mirrors the products themselves.
Patil continued, “The packaging was designed to be reusable, much like the products it holds, allowing customers to repurpose it for storing pillows, blankets, and more. With a waterproof coating, the rug packaging also serves as a convenient laundry bag that can be closed if needed.”
