The Facebook page of Pakistani dairy brand Haleeb Foods has been hacked by a disgruntled social media agency which claims it has not been paid by the company for seven months.
The agency, identified in reports as Karachi-based Viral Edge, took control of the page and inserted an image of a padlock and a stamp declaring “payments due”.
Emblazoned across the page were the words “suspended due to non-payment” with the message: “Dear Fans, please help us in recover our payments due since more than 7 months on account of Haleeb Foods. Kindly re-share the page on your profile to support the cause.”
It also includes contact details of Haleeb Foods marketing director Mansoor Nawaz.
Reports in propakistani.pk said the dispute follows the termination of Viral Edge’s contract with Haleeb after the agency developed two websites for the company.
The agency claimed it only received partial payment and told Haleeb it would “publicly shame” the firm unless full payment was made.
The hacking of the Facebook page again raises questions over how brands secure their social media assets from cyber attacks.
