Bangalore : Indian Newspaper Society (INS) has elected P V Chandran of the Mathrubhumi Group as its President of the for 2015-16 at its 76th Annual general meeting held on last Friday at Bengaluru.
P V Chandran is the Managing Editor and one of the whole-time Directors of the Mathrubhumi Group, looking after Malayalam Magazine Grihalakshmi, an exclusive magazine for women.
Akila Urankar, president of Business Standard Pvt Ltd, was elected as the vice-president of INS.
Chandran has succeeds Kiran B Vadodaria, the Chairman and Managing Director of Gujarati newspaper Sambhaav Metro, who was elected in the 75th AGM held last year in which Chandran was elected as Deputy President.
Somesh Sharma of Rashtradoot Saptahik is the new deputy president of INS. Mohit Jain (Economic Times) is the honorary treasurer. and V Shankaran was elected secretary general.
The 41-member new Executive Committee includes K Balaji (The Hindu Weekly), Vijay Kumar Chopra (Punjab Kesari, Jalandhar), Viveck Goenka (The Indian Express, Mumbai), Mahendra Mohan Gupta (Dainik Jagran), Sanjay Gupta (Dainik Jagran, Varanasi), R Lakshmipathy (Dinamalar), Naresh Mohan (Sunday Statesman), M P Veerendra Kumar (Mathrubhumi), Hormusji N Cama (Bombay Samachar Weekly) and Ravindra Kumar (The Statesman).
P V Chandran joined Mathrubhumi as director in 1977 and took charge as the managing editor of the daily in 1989. He was the executive member of the INS for a long time.
In 2010, he was elected as the Kerala regional committee of the INS. He became the vice president of the INS in 2013 and deputy president in 2014.
